On August 31, my 18 year old car was stolen from my driveway. I immediately called the 1-800 Allstate number because it was after business hours. I was clear that I was calling to cancel my insurance in case any damage would be caused by my car if the thieves got it to run.
It took me 4 contacts with 4 different Allstate employees to finally get the insurance cancelled only after I had to pay $4.00 to fax the police document, which they could have easily accessed by the number, which I gave to two agents.
I received a letter declining my "claim". Only problem is that I did not file a claim. I only wanted to cancel the insurance. I was very clear about that and invite Allstate to listen to my conversations, which they say are monitored or recorded.
Today, Sept 12, I called to ask that the "claim" be removed from my record because I never filed a claim. I was told by Ms Rudolph the claim cannot be removed and she would have my "agent" call me to explain. There is no explanation necessary as I did not file a claim. She said "they" filed a claim... Well good for them, but I did not!
I have been an Allstate customer for 26 years with never a claim filed. If such a simple issue becomes worse trauma that the theft itself, it is time to find a new insurance company!
This is very disillusioning, indeed. I guess Allstate is a great company if you pay the premiums but never need any help.
