Inflated prices! Rude, harassing, and threatening customer service! Reported my car stolen!

First of all I am very glad that I found this website. Although, as it happens I found it too late! I'm only 21 now, but by the time I was 18 my credit was pretty mush shot.

In October my car died, it had been a great car with over 230,000 miles on it. Even if I can't manage money, I can keep up with my cars... By January i was tired of my parents and friends running me around everywhere. I got hired into the company that I was working for and my salary went up considerably. So I went in search of a car. No good dealership was willing to finance me. So I went to JD Byrider to see what they could do for me.

I walked in there Jan 1 and after about 4 hours I walked out with a car. When I got there I was just looking around in the parking lot, and my first clue that I was getting into something bad should have been when a sales guy came over and told me that before I even look around that we had to go in and see what I could get financed for. I fighured what the heck let's see what happens, I can say no and I can look around later...

The sales guy went through all his pitch and started working numbers. They told me that they could finance me. I was so overjoyed at that point. Finally they told me that they had just what I was looking for and showed me a 1991 Chevy Cav that only had about 50,000 miles on it. They car looked fairly decent, with low mileage for a '91. So I decided to go ahead and drive it home.

Being young and dumb and excited about a new car I went back in and they started pushing paper after paper at me. When I finally asked them how much the car was they talked their way around that and kept on with the paper work.By the time I walked out I had a '91 Cavalier and $6,528.15 worth of debt ahead of me. $5,495.00 for a car that was blue book less than half of that, as well as $595.00 for an extended service agreement that I specifically told them I didn't want because it was 6 months or 6,000 miles with a $100 deductible. I woundn't trust anyone to change the oil in my car let alone any real work. Yet I was told that I had to take the service agreement or that this wouldn't happen. So I took it. They also set me up with their insurance co which is American Service Insurance... I have a beef with them too, but they are no where near as bad as JD Byrider.

I had been told that the car was in great condition that it had been gone over by their mechanics and that everything was great. Well the first thing I did was change all the fluids in the car. Then I started noticing problems. I had to do the brakes, timing chain, the head, alternator, and a couple of other minor things.

As to their customer service, instead of going into the store every two weeks to make my payment of $113.11, I called "their bank" CNAC and ok'd it with them that I would mail it in. I would also call them every Friday to make sure that it was rcv'd. After about 6 months I kept mailing the payment, but stopped calling. That's when the harassing calls started! They were continually calling and saying that the payments were late. When I knew that they weren't. And I had bank statements to prove it. When I talked to their bank manager Dave Sabitina he kept telling me that the payments were late and I told him that I had bank statements to prove that they weren't and he preceeded to tell me that they aren't the ones at fault and that if I didn't start making my payment on time that they were going to report the car stolen. This is when my boyfriend jumped into the scene and he started talking to them for me. One day when he was talking to Dave Sabitina, I was on the other phone listening and he told my boyfriend that I wasn't making payments on time and that if this continued that they were going to report the car stolen. And he started yelling at my boyfriend, and you could hear others in the office just laughing at the conversation.

All my bank statements showed that the payments were made on time yet, they were putting them in their system as anywhere from 2 to 9 days late and then the bulk of the payment was going to interest charges. So the price of the car kept going up higher and higher.

The final straw with these people was when they reported my car stolen December 23! The police showed up at my door and said that they were going to take the car and arrest me. My boyfriend and I told him everything. Knowing the cop really helped me out in this case. I showed him all the paper work from buying the car and showed him all the bank statements. Needless to say they didn't take my car or me. He also advised me of what I could do legally. But that the easiest, cheapest thing to do for now would be to just pay the car off. Which is what we did. We went to the store x-mas eve and made a deal to pay it off for $2,300. The total balance due at the time I bought the car was $6528.15 and over the course of 2 year I paid them $8181.72, that's $1653.57 more than what it should have cost.

When it came to getting the title it was jsut as bad. Tehy said that it would be ready in 7 business days. It was January 23rd before I finally got the title and I had to drive 40 miles to the store where their bank is located to get actually get it.

I'm so glad not to be doing business with these people any longer! And I'm still persuing legal action against them. For anyone thinking of doing business with them, I hope that you find this web site before you actually do business with JD Byrider / CNAC.
