My mail is not reaching its destination - Letters... Bill payments

I mailed three letters with money orders, Wednesday a wee ago (01/20/10).
Today is 01/27/10, and the mail I've sent has not reached its destination.
I called the local Post Office (Dexter,
Missouri 63841), and I was told by the clerk that I need to put insurance on all my mail to guarantee its arrival at its destination.
So! I must no longer trust the USPS unless I pay extra for insurance?

The @*%#@ing mail is already expensive
enough, and now they want us to insure
all letters so that they can do their job right! I don't think so!
