I moved to Arizona in Feb from ILL. I wanted to make sure my car had a total checkup before making the 1900 mile trip. I took my Ford Escort to Firestone in Des Plaines, ILL. I called and talk to a man by the name of Matthew, I told him I wanted my car check and to be safe for the 1900 mile trip.
I knew my car being a older car a 1994 with 64,000 miles on it might need a lot. I Really didn't care about the cost I just wanted to have a safe trip. I had a mastercare oil change that cover everything to be checked. I had a complete vechicle inspection cost 103.00 I had a fuel system tune up cost 79.99. I was told my right outer tie rod needed to be replace cost 104.00a four wheel aligment 59.00 ball joints lower rear left and arm need to be replaced 212.48 master standard brake job rear shose 109.98 kit 19.99 tire rotation cost 20.00 5 belts replaced 90.49.
I was told my car was in excellent shape. I still ask how are my tire, I had bought them 4 month befor. I was told all four tire were in great shape. Mat then the GM of the store was the man that took my money and sent me on my way. I left feeling safe and thinking Firestone did a great job and the cost of 800.00 was less then I expected. I drove home 2 and half mile from Firestone to my home. The next day I use the car for a short drive to my job 2 miles and drove home, the car felt great. The next day was my 10 year old grandaughter birthday and the last time I would see my family for a while, I was leaving to move to AZ the next day. My famly live 84 mile away, I needed to take the expessway to get there. I drove about 26 mile on the highway when my car started wobbling and I had a hard time steering the car. I was going 60 miles a hour and I was trying to slow the car down.
I was so scared all I could see was all the big trucks on the side of me. I came to a stop 5 miles from a exit, it was in Jan.in Ill and it was snowing and very cold. The back right ball joint and arm broke. I had to wave and hope someone would help me. It took 45 min for a nice family to help call my family to pick me up. My car was taken to another firestone about 45 mile from my home. They did another vehicle inspection and found the right rear arm and ball joint was broke and rusted and needed to be replaced, my back rear tire needed to be replaced and the rim was broke. 614.00 bill, my family was with me and a fight over matthew lack of doing the right job almost got me killed.
A few phone calls brought the bill down to a little under 300.00. I had to pay for the new tire and rim. I was told the tire and rim must of already needed to be replaced before the ball joint broke. It was the same tire and rim on the back right side that wobble sideway and almust fell off the car. It took 3 months of fighting with firestone about the tire & rim and they refunded the 300.00. But I had to call and call and I was made to feel none of this was firestone fault.
