In April I brought my 2001.5 VW Passat to this service center. I needed a new timing belt and water pump. They charged me 819 dollars for a new water pump and timing belt. Recently I was getting other work done on my vehicle at another service center. They noticed that my timing belt was extremely worn.
Upon further investigation they also noticed that the front end has never been removed from my vehicle. You need to remove the front end to replace the timing belt and water pump. All the screws had the original factory paint on them. The Timing belt and water pump were original to the vehicle. They checked the reference numbers with VW of North america. The belt tensioner looked like it had been replaced. When Eddie Musgrave was asked if the tensioner had been replaced he said no just the belt. You are supposed to replace the tensioner with the belt. What he had done was replaced the tensioner and used the old belt. He did not remove the front of the vehicle.
I was charged 819 dollars for a belt tensioner. If this belt would have failed my engine would have been ruined. They are denying any wrong doing. Do not get your vehicle serviced here.
