This is our son's vehicle. He's a student and the car is registered in our names. Our son called to say his car had been towed from the apartment parking lot where he has lived since Aug. 2008. He was notified of the car's location and he called Midnight Services.
He said they didn't tell him anything. Mother called and was told car was towed because no permit sticker was visible. Son was very sure that sticker was clearly displayed. Mother went on internet and discovered numerous complaints regarding Midnight Services; 13 from Better Business Bureau and several more at this website.
Police were called. They were sympathetic, but said they couldn't help because this is a civil matter rather than a criminal one. However, they said they had other complaints and that this company was getting "overly aggressive" about towing. Also said that many towing companies check license plates rather than looking for stickers before towing.
Based on other complaints we have read, we believe this company may have removed the sticker themselves, then towed the car. We had to drive 3 hours to the college, then pay $210 to get the car back. And he did nothing wrong!!!
Apartment manager has been notified so they know what kind of business they're dealing with. This has the potential to "turn off" existing and future tenants from renting there.
We are furious!!!
