Went to PEP BOYS regarding a problem with what I thought was my radiator leaking. Pep Boys reviewed my issue and indicated that the radiator was the problem and told me the price and a couple other items which needed to be fixed. I was ok with this response thinking my car would be fix and I should be able to use it for another year or two. They indicated the car was tested in the bay and on the road. Paid for repairs which totaled over 1000.00. Drove the car home and it over heated again the same as it did prior to my bringing it in to PEP BOYS. The problem was not resolved. Brought the car back again and stated that the problems I previously had were still occuring and that it did not appear to have been resolved with the work they did. They reviewed the car that day in the bay and on the road and called me back saying there was nothing wrong. I asked them how far they drove the car and it was only a short 5 minute drive around the block.insisted they drive it 2-3 miles and see what happens. They encountered the problem and stated they would see what the problem was. They wanted the original mechanic to do the review and he would not be back for a couple of days, so delay was encountered in diagnosing the problem further. Received a call back and PEP BOYS stated the head was blown on the car and this was causing the problems now. They indicated this was not the original problem and was a new problem, however it had the exact symptoms of the issue I brought the car in in the first place. Seems like it was the orginal problem and they just mis-diagnosed it. Estimated repair 1400. Already had over 1000.00 into the car and though the car is only work 3-4K, I decided to proceed with the work since the car as it was, would be unusable. They took much longer than required to complete the work, since they wanted to wait to have the original mechanic do the work. Total cost for the car was over $2,500, Only break they gave me was a 10% discount on the repairs which is something I found out later was a common discount off of service and is nothing special. I will never shop or have service at PEP BOYS again. Another co-worker encountered similar problems with them at their East Norriton PA location.
