Car goes in for oil change and tire noise, comes out with a blown engine

This is a long story, but I'll do my best to keep it short. I brought my car in to Jack Williams Tire in Marshalls Creek on 5/2/08 for an oil change and to check out a tire noise. They said that the noise was just a flat spot on one of the tires. All they needed to do was rotate them and the noise would eventually go away. While they were at it they allegedly replaced the spark plugs and ordered some O2 sensors that were to be installed when the came in.

On 6/13/08 I brought the car back in because the tire noise was getting worse. While it was in there I also had them do another premium oil change and allegedly install the O2 sensors (the invoice states Bank #1 Sensor #1, Bank #2 Sensor #1, and Bank #2 Sensor #2) that were ordered. Well, it turns out the tire noise was not what they originally said; it was the wheel bearing, which according to them meant that my tire could have flown off. Being a company that specializes in tires and stuff, this little oversight was somewhat alarming.

So, they end up ALLEGEDLY installing the wheel bearing and hub assembly along with the other stuff they were supposed to have done and then while taking it out on a test drive, blew up the engine. One of the shims that are pressure sealed along the cam shaft (forgive me if I'm not stating this in the correct terms) popped out, bounced around and somehow cracked the engine block. For a couple weeks they tried to figure out what was going on and just kept giving me line after line of BS...

Finally they called and said that the job was too big and that they would need to send it down the street to a mechanic that could handle something like this. I went back and fourth with the new mechanic until he was able to find out what had happened. According to him, his manager, and two separate service managers with Infiniti all agreed that the only way this could have happened was from over revving the engine.

To top it off it turns out that this new mechanic only found one new O2 sensor (not 3 as stated on the invoice), found that the wheel bearing needed to be replaced (when I confronted Jack Williams Tire, they said that they replaced a different one, what a strange coincidence) and the list of oddities goes on and on. I met with Scott Williams, who is the President/COO of Jack Williams Tire, when I originally heard the news from the new mechanic and hoped him being what I thought was an honorable business man would resolve the wrong doing of his Marshalls Creek shop and make things right, but boy was I wrong.

My total expenses incurred directly by this incident was somewhere over $15000, which includes the work done to diagnose and replace the engine as well as the rental car I ended up having to rent for 44 day (the car was in the shop for much longer than that). Scott sent me a check for $630.91 and basically said that I didn't take care of my car and it would have happened anyway. I have documented proof that I kept up with my cars up keep and had the oil changed every three to five thousand miles. His own service manager admitted right in front of him that the car came in running fine. When I told him that myself as well as some of my neighbors had seen him and some of his techs "chirp" the tires when leaving the Marshalls Creek location of Jack Williams, he reluctantly confirmed it.

All I'm asking for is what is right. I am not the type of guy that goes around suing businesses or anyone for that matter, but this is just plain wrong and I'm shocked that Mr. Williams is making me take this to the next level. I wish I had known about the rip off report before my dealings with them because it's clear that I'm not the only one to have had an issue with Jack Williams Tire in Marshalls Creek.

Not only that, but in speaking with several other of my neighbors regarding my car issue, they had other not very complementary things to say about that particular shop. Now, I have no idea how the other Jack Williams shops are run, but I can tell you that this experience has left me with an extremely bad taste in my mouth, not to mention the gaping hole it's left in my bank account.

With any luck, this little note will help Scott correct this wrong doing and restore my faith in Jack Williams Tire Company. Until which time I would welcome any contact from the media, a consumer advocate, lawyer and/or government authority to aide in coming to some reasonable solution to this situation.

FYI - The report # for the other usacomplaints.com file for the Jack Williams in Marshalls Creek, PA that I spoke of is Report: #104864.
