On april 4th my tire was almost bald and i just realized it. It was 6pm at night and the only place open was Monroe. I went into their store, told them i needed a tire, size 195/65/r15. They said they had one and could do it, for $115. Desperate, i agreed. They did the work, and by that time it was dark. I paid and left, happy i had a new tire.
While looking at my new tire the next day i realized it was smaller then the rest. I looked and it was a 195/60/r15. Furious that a mechanic could put the wrong size tire on a car and not notice what they're doing, i brought it back and insisted on a new tire.
I went to Monroe, and told the manager on duty, Tim, what had happened the night before and told him i wanted the right size tire put on my car at no charge. He agreed to do it. After they put the new tire on, as i was leaving, there was this horrible noise comming from that side. They said it was the new treads. Being a naive girl, and not knowing about cars I believed it and drove it around for a month.
The noise got worse and worse and things in my car were shaking (the dash, the stearing wheel). I went back to them and they told me i needed a balance in the front, 4 tire rotation, and a front end alignment. I agreed to it.
When i came to get my car later that day i noticed that my new tire (from april 4th) was still on the front. If they did a rotation it should have been in the back. I asked him and he said yes we only rotated the right side, not the left. And he left it at that. (i hate these people. About a week later i noticed they forgot to put my lug nuts back on after the rotation (they put only 2 on, and i guess forgot about the other 3) i brought it back and got my 3 lug nuts. Idiots.
After i asked him what happened to the FOUR tire rotation, i asked him about the horrible noise. He told me that the noise was from a bad wheel bearing. When i asked him how the wheel bearing went bad, and asked if it could have been from the wrong size tire being put on a month ago. They told me the wheel bearing was bad because i went straight for 2 long.
Anybody living in the Saranac Lake area know's it's impossible to go straight for more than 2 miles.
Knowing i was getting the run around by them, i paid, and left. Later that day i called their customer service, and told the guy i was talking to what had happened. He told me that they would replace my wheel bearing because it was their mistake for putting the wrong size tire on and that's what caused the problem. The guy, Adam, told me to get an estimate and fax it to him.
I did just that, and tried to contact adam again and still to this day (2 months later) i still have not heard back. I had my wheel bearing replaced for $150, and while they were replacing it, i was told that the rotors were shot from the wheel beaing being bad. So another $200 later my car was finally drivable.
The mechanics at monroe muffler have no idea what they're doing. They can't even change a simple tire. They forget to put lug nuts back on the tire? That's just being careless. People depend on their cars, and their mechanics, the mechanics are the ones supposed to be checking to make sure you arn't driving down the road and your tire falls off (mine could have done that)
And when they make a mistake like putting the wrong size part in they should cover the cost of THEIR damage. Just to remind you, my car isn't even a year old yet, and monroe has caused all these problems to it.
