First I would like to tell my husbands story - He purchased a car and was unfortunately given a loan through United Auto Credit. He was never late and never missed a payment. After we had the car for a little over a year, we traded it in on a better, more reliable car and he got the load through HSBC Auto Financing (HSBC has been great). When the scheduled payment came due on our original car united auto credit called asking when the payment would be made. My husband proceeded to tell them that we no longer owned the car and that we had traded it in on something else. United Auto Credit told him that he was still responsible for the payment because he didn't come in and sign any paper work with them. He told them that he didn't sign paper work with them when he purchased the car either. They continued to call him 3 times a day everyday and harass by telling him that they were turnig him over to collection unless he came in to make the payment for a month before they finally realized that the car had been paid off.
Unfortunately I purchased a car before my husband traded his car in and I also got my loan throught United Auto Credit, My husband was laid off in April so I called United Auto Credit and discussed my financial problems with Angela. I was told that I could defer my payment for 2 months delaying May and Junes payments until the end of my loan. She faxed me over the paper work for the May payment and told me that we could handle Junes payment when the time came. Well when the time came for Junes payment I received a call from Ozzie on my cell phone, my home phone and my work phone. I tried to call Angela back and was told she was not available. The next day Ozzie once again called me on my cell phone, home phone and work phone. I received the call at work. I explained to him that I had spooken to Angela at which time Ozzie told me that I was lying and that they do not do back to back payments. He then proceeded to tell me we were going to have major problems if I did not make my payment today. I tried to explain to him that I did not have the money to make the payment at which time he told me that I neede to borrow the money. I tried to explain to him that I didn't have anyone to borrow money from. He said "so you are telling me that you don't have any family" I replied that I do have family but that I could not borrow money from them explaining that my parents are retired and on a fixed income. He then proceeded to tell me that I then needed to call the people I listed as my references. I told him I could not recall who I listed 19 months ago. He then said "well I will tell you" at this time i grew tired of arguing with Ozzie and asked to speak with Angela since she was the one I made the arrangements with. When Angela got on the phone she too was very rude saying that we could defer my payment but would that really help my situation. I told her I was not sure and that my husband was looking for employment but my only other optioin was to return the car. She then proceeded to tell me that she would rather I return the car then drive it for another month without paying for it. I then asked her where she would like me to return at which time she gave me the address and their business hours. Their business hours are 8:00 am until 5:00 pm which happen to be the same hours that I work. I explained this to her and asked if there was a drop box I could leave the keys in. I was told no I had to come in during business hours so because she had to give me paperwork. I told her this would not be possible at wich time she said "well then have your husband drop it off since he isn't working" I then asked her if he coul sign the paper work she mentioned and she said "there is no paper work to sign" this left me totally confused. I would never purchase another automobile again if it meant that I would have to use United Auto Credit.
