2001 Merc Cougar. 87k
I took my car in to get new breaks. Joel (or Joey) told me it would be $170 for breaks and $40 for a break fluid flush (which I confirmed with another mechanic prior I should get). I argued about the $99.88. He said they don't carry my pads in stock so it costs more.
I asked him the price breakdown of the 99.88 deal and he said they charge $49.88 for parts and $50 for labor on the $99.88 deal.
I said then they must be charging me $120 for pads, or $30 each which I said is too high. He said they get it from a book. He also said they automatically add in like $20 when all the sudden it doesnt fall into the $99.88 category because they now have to look up the part and get it ordered and such. $25 for each pad is twice the price I can get them for at autozone.
I guess I made him feel bad enough about the price, he called me back and told me they would take off the $40 for the break fluid flush.
