I bought a remanufactured engine for my 1989 4 runner from APR Auto Care. After contacting APR about a new engine and their Core deposit policy, they sent me instructions for returning my used engine, saying that I only had to drain it of all fluids, put their tag on it and use the original crate for shipping in order to get my $500.00 deposit.
I also called and spoke to Don prior to shipping, who clarified the fact that this was all I needed to do, and that the refund would take 60-90 days. After 3 months, I had not heard from APR so I called to inquire. At that time, Don then told me that, oh by the way, I would not be getting my refund because the heads had corrosion on them, and that it would cost $250. P/head to clean them $250. X 2 - $500. How convenient that their cleaning price costs exactly what my refund was to be!
When I told Don at APR that nothing about corrosion was mentioned in their CORE deposit instructions, all he could say was ""I'm sorry"! That's not all: when I contacted VISA to dispute the claim for me, they would not address it since more than 60 days had elapsed from time of purchase.
I believe that APR knew all along that if they waited long enough to keep my money without contacting me, that I would have no recourse with VISA. I also contacted the Better Business Bureau, who was useless with regard to the matter as well. APR Auto Co is a liar and a thief, AND I WOULD TELL EVERYONE I KNOW NOT TO EVER USE THEM FOR ANYTHING.
When I researched APR through the BBB, there had been no less than 15 complaints against them!!
