Conventional wisdom dictates third-party after-market "warranties" are suspect at best, not worth the paper they are written on at worst.in the case of Phoenix American, I experienced the latter.

Fortunately, I was in the early stage of the warranty period so I could at least cancel the policy and get a refund (although that has yet to materialize after 30 days). My warranty specifically states that AFTER MARKET add-on audio and entertainment systems are NOT covered under the warranty, which I fully agree with. However, by implication, it specifically does mean that factory installed radios are indeed fully covered (confirmed by legal counsel). Nevertheless, Phoenix American refused to cover my radio repairs even though my dealer who sold me the policy fully supported my contention that it was fully covered. Salt on the wound was Phoenix American's refusal to even discuss the matter. Their attitude is one of, "just say NO" and let the customer prove otherwise.insofar as holding their feet to the fire, the contract states that any dispute or arbitration must take place in local Miami courts. Living in Arizona makes that cost and time prohibitive. I'm certain they are aware of this as well. All things considered, I strongly recommend NOT doing business with Phoenix American and question the wisdom of paying for any third-party warranty other than those provided by the manufacturer's dealer network.
