On Saturday, December 8, I took my Honda to McDavid Honda for an oil change. Subsequently, they told me I have to buy an oil pan for $500 because the Timesert no longer will tighten. This is after only *3* oil changes; i.E., 3 tightens of the Timesert.
McDavid Honda are the only people who changed the oil in my car since it received a Timesert oil drain plug. Timesert is recommended by Honda in Technical Service Bulletins (TSB).
Each time I took the car to McDavid Honda, there were typed instructions regarding the Timesert. E.G., Tighten to 15 foot pounds. Now, after only *3* oil changes, the Timesert no longer will tighten.
I spoke with them. They stated Timeserts are "temporary". (If Timeserts were temporary, how could Timesert stay in business when their product cannot survive 3 loosening/tightenings and costs $131 *not* including labor to install.) Then why is Honda recommending Timeserts in their Technical Service Bulletins?
Comes down to personal responsibility. I've raised my boys that if you make a mistake, don't be a weasel - to other men, you don't want to be known as a weasel.
