I currently am an employee of Aamco Transmission in New Castle Delaware. Over the past year to year and a half I have witnessed used/junkyard transmissions being painted and sold as rebuilt transmissions. The owner and operator (Lane Carey) of this Aamco transmission center has not made it known to his employees that this is the case but I have been told to paint the unit's case silver and remove the torque converter in order to paint it black. I became suspicious of this practice immediately and started to ask questions. My boss told me that these were refurbished transmissions from Al's auto salvage that needed to be cleaned up. The owner/operator had previously set up an incentive program for his technicians in which all the total sales from a week would be individually placed on a board for our viewing and once a certain amount had been reached we would receive a bonus. This board gave me the opportunity to see what any one given job was being sold for, it does not take a genius to see that a used/painted transmission would not sell for over $2000.00 as was the case. The reward for my curiousity is that I was sent home from work this past Friday (1/4/08) and told to think about whether I wanted to remain an employee of Aamco transmissions. I asked what the reasoning was and was told that the comments I had made over the past 2-3 weeks, my poor attitude and my immaturity lead to my being sent home. Two days proir to my being sent home I was told that my pay rate would change from hourly to a flat rate system that would clearly result in a pay cut due to the lack of transmission work currently in the area. I feel that customers are being ripped off and that I am being forced out of my job for questioning my boss's business ethics.
