I was hit by a driver who was asleep at the wheel. This has been 4 months ago. The driver was insured by Nationwide. This has been a nightmare. I hope I never have to deal with Nationwide ever again. Read more to hear all they have put me through.
First of all, Nationwide gave me a rental for just over a week, it was a truck also, where as I drive a small car that is very good on gas, this truck was not, and I have 2 children to drive around in this truck. Anyway I have the truck just over a week and they call me and tell me I have to turn it in they are not paying for it any longer. I turn it in and they havent even started repairing my car yet.
So repairs start on my car, the repairs are well over six thousand dollars. My car is 3 years old, less than sixty thousand miles on it but with that much damage it should have been totalled. Nationwide refused to repair my car with new parts, they used parts out of a junkyard, on my 3 year old car. Because new parts would have made the repairs more, over 75% of the value and totalled my car. The repairs were nearly 70% with the junkyard parts.
I was without a car to drive for two months. I finally get my car back and now there is paint chipping from the bumper, the doors dont want to shut well, the windows dont roll up correctly. And one of the wheels they replaced needs a wheel barring. No problems before. Wouldnt be a problem now had they not insisted that they would not use new parts but only junkyard parts.
Also, this is the good part. I asked for depreciation value on my car because it was so new. I know that now even though it is fixed it isnt worth what it was before, their insured hit it. Well the adjuster came to look at the car, took pictures.incovienced me because my husband had to drive my car that day. Well he said, it would be 4-5 weeks before we would get a check and that a computer just spit the check out. UHH whatever. So six weeks later we call because we have gotten nothing back.
Well what does he say, he says he never came to take pictures of our car. Calls us liars basically, like my husband and all those he works with imagined that. So I call a manager/supervisor and suddenly he remembers coming to take the pictures but they are lost. They got deleted or something. So he has to interupt me at work to come back and take more pictures. Ok so then we find out that not only was he lying about not coming to take the pics but that the 4-5 weeks was a lie. It takes 1 week.
So now this has been done and we have estimates from car dealerships saying that my car is worth anywhere from 2300-3000 less because of this wreck even after being completely repaired. What offer do we get from Nationwide. $800 and we tell them no we want atleast 1700. So they come back with an offer of $1000 and refuse to budge anymore.
So either way you look at it I am at a loss of atleast $1300 because this guy hit me and was insured with Nationwide. Not only the $1300 but two additional months without a car and four months paying on a car that is not the way it was before this guy hit me.
My advice to you, if you get hit by someone insured wiht Nationwide, get an attorney immediately no questions asked. Also if you have Nationwide switch TODAY.
