I have had Nationwide insurance for years - they have covered my house and my car and it has cost me thousands of dollars over the years to have insurance there. I never thought one of the more well known companies would ever get me the way they have. My husband had a car wreck a few weeks back and it was his fault - he swirved to miss another vehicle that he thought was crossing the center line and he hit a telephone pole. It did over seven thousand dollars worth of damage to the vehicle and the vehicle was worth ten thousand dollars so they refused to total it out even though I insisted that they knew it was worth nothing now. Even after being repaired the car cannot be traded in on anything because it has had more than 50% of the cars value damaged. I have begged and pleaded with them that since the cars damage is 68% of the value of the car that they should total it out and allow me the opportunity to get in another car that is worth paying that much for. I still owe fourteen thousand dollars on this car and they were well aware that the car was not worth repairing - they just didnt want to pay to total it out.
And, to top it off, we had two people in the car that went to the hospital in ambulances - my husband had a CAT scan done because he has spina biffida and his neck was injured in the wreck. Our wonderful adjuster went to my house and told my husband that he was giving him a check for a thousand dollars for his pain and suffering but it had nothing to do with his medical bills - they would pay that later and had him sign on the dotted line.in reality, he took advantage of someone that was unable to sit there for an hour and read what he was signing because he was in pain and lied to him and assured him that he was not signing away his rights to having his medical bills paid. That is exactly what happened though, now we are stuck with hospital emergency room bills, radiology bills, followup doctor bills etc.in excess of ten thousand dollars and and we got a measeley little one thousand dollar check to cover it all - when my policy should have covered all of it because he was covered for up to thirty thousand dollars.
Needless to say, I have switched companies and would NEVER refer anyone to Nationwide ever again - I have been taken advantage of and they stole my money for years so that they could rip me off. I feel very very let down by Nationwide - please dont let them suck you in too.
