After an 11,000 mile/3 week trip on my '05 Gold Wing I took it to the dealership where I purchased it 5 months ago. It is used but only had 15K miles on it. On my trip I had head light problems that I fixed by lowering the pressure on my rear suspension by 5 lbs. (I know that sounds strange but it worked). I told him the head bearings were bad because I have excessive shimming when slowing from 45 through 30 MPH. It is a known problem with these bikes but it was severe on this one. Honda won't do anything about it. The service manager went directly to my front tire and said it looked like that was the problem because it has a raised center area. He said this was very unusual. Ok... I took it to an independent shop and was told this was not unusual. Ok... I took it to Western Honda of Scottsdale and they said the same thing. My tire isn't showing any unusual wear. The kind of wear he was looking for is caused by under inflation of the tire and it's called cupping. Coyote's service manager also said warn head bearings are a normal wear out item and Honda won't cover it. I know this to be a lie because Arizona Honda does a lot of them. They will also replace them with a non-Honda brand like All Balls brand which takes care of the shimming problem. Alas Arazona Honda is in Tucson. The maintenance manager couldn't tell me what was wrong with the reverse problem I was having either. Western Honda told me right away that a stuck gear in the reverse system can cause this problem and to bring it in for warranty repair. I have a maintenance contract with Coyote Honda and I may just cancel it and establish it with a well known shop in the eastern part of the valley. After paying in my case $14,500 for a motorcycle you'd expect Honda, dealership or company to keep their customers happy especially on the flagship model. As an aside... It is about 30 miles to Coyote Honda from my house.
