I recently went to Garden City Chrysler to purchase a used 2006 vehicle that had been advertised on their website for $14,700. After seeing and driving the car, I went into the used car department to negotiate a sales price. I asked the salesman to see what he could do with the numbers. I was paying cash. He came back with a price of $16,990 plus taxes and fees. The fees as he showed me totaled about $1200. They included a vehicle prep fee, a delivery fee, a documentation fee, an inspection fee and one other fee. These were in addition to taxes and the registration fee.
I told him that I would not be paying these fees since they were not legit fees. I informed him that they were false fees made up to add propfit for the dealership. The salesman brought over a manager and both agreed that I was correct that the fees were there to boost profit.
I then asked what they could do on the price of the car and they stated the lowest they could go was $16,900. When I informed them that the car was advertised at $14,700. I was told that they could not waive the fees and sell the car at $14,700. They refused to sell me the car at the advertised price. Even when I told them that I would register the vehicle myself (to save them the documentation fee) and that they could deliver it to me without washing and waxing it (to save the $500 prep fee) they still refused to sell the car to me.
These people are ripoffs. The fees that they charge are nonsense! Read the fine print on the purchase order where they admit that some or all of the fees may be applied as profit.
This dealership is owned by the same person that also owns Westbury Chrysler Jeep and Grand Prix Chrysler in Hicksville. Buyers beware.
