My wife and I purchase a 2004 Mercedes ML350 while trading a 2004 Hyundai Sonata. We told the dealer exactly what we wanted and that we could be flexible on color depending on the features. We requested black or white.
The salesman called and said the he could could get us a light blue model, but it had many extras on it. We were told that it had satellite radio, the Mercedes navagation system and an entertainment system with headrest monitors with a DVD player. We decided to go with this model because of the extras and the color was actually very nice.
When we arrived to pick up the vehicle, I thought I would try the satellite radio. The satellite radio didn't work, so the salesman told me that we would just have to order the service... Ok, no problem. Then I tried the Navigation system. There were no DVDs for the system.
The salesman and salesmanager told us that they were sorry, and they would contact the dealer where they cot the car from and get them or they would order them from the MB dealer and have them for us in a few days. I sad, you better tell me that the entertainment system works... And he said yes, they had it on earlier that day. So, I mistakenly took his word for it.
The next day, I tried to test the system and NOTHING. I traced the problem to wires that had been cut. There was no way that the system could have worked the previous day, so he lied about it.
Then I looked for the satellite radio unit to see whether it was XM or Sirius, and the receiver had been removed. I didn't need to order the service, I needed to have a whole unit re-installed. Needless to say, we were both fit to be tied.
We made multiple phone cales to the dealer talking to everyone from the saleman to the general sales manager, and it was always the same thing. "I'll check into that and get back to you." Natually, the never called back. Why would they, they got what they needed.
Not only did they misrepresent the auto to us, but they also misrepresented it to the bank that financed the car. They used features to build the car's value that as it turned out, the car never had.
So, along with my final letter to their owner, I will be including a letter to the bank outlining their questionable business practices.
