I received an invitation in the mail to receive a car, with no money down. I called the number and spoke to a Paul Mckelvey. I provided the necessary information to see if I qualified for a car loan. Paul returned my call after a few hours and told me he had "good news... I was approved for a loan" Later that day I called and he stated his computer was down but he will either give me a call later that day or the next day. He called the next day restating he had "good news". I contacted him again because he want to set up an appointment for us to meet and "finalize" the deal. I received several email and another phone call to confirm our visit on Friday, 5/26/06 @ 10:15 am. I live in Sacramento and Paul was in Tracy (over an hour drive). I called Paul the day before our visit just to comfirm everything was OK and he was with a customer and said he would call me in 20 minutes. Well, he never returned my call so I figured since his last message stated he already talked to the lender and we were good to go there shouldn't have been a problem.
I arrived 15 minutes before the appointment, since I wasn't familiar with the area and because the drive was over an hour, and informed the receptionist I had an appointment with Paul. She stated she would let him know I was there but when she returned back to her desk she was alone. About 10 minutes later another guy came and said he would help and that Paul was out of the office. (I don't know why the receptionist couldn't tell me this information). I knew something was wrong.
Well, everthing I was promised was not true, they had already ran my credit and knew I currently had a car loan and that I wasn't interested in a trading my current car because I knew it had negative equity (information that was already discussed over the phone prior to me arriving).
I feel I was ripped off because 1) Paul knew how long of a drive I was taking @ $3.25 a gallon 2) Paul knew he never talked to a lender to get approval prior to me arriving as he stated on the phone the day before my appointment 3) Paul stated on the phone and in his email if I can't make it to the appointment to please be courteous and let him know and he was the one who couldn't face me to tell me the truth or even tell me the truth over the phone.
