On Friday April 19 I took my 96 Hyundai Accent to the Yorba Linda, CA AAMCO because my transmission was out and AAMCO was a name I thought I could trust. At the beginning I was told that the total repair would be $1643, but that he would like to tear it down to see what other damage there was because he wouldn't be able to tell. After talking to him several times I was uncertain if I wanted to fix the car, he told me it would be no more than $1800 and after much pressuring from him I was told that a tear down was necessary. I was also told that if I couldn't pay for the repair up front that the car would be held until I paid the repair off.
On Monday I called and was told that the total cost would be $$2400 and if I didn't repair it, I would have to pay $695.95 for the tear down. I called AAMCO customer service and spoke to rep. Who told me she would contact the service station and get back to me. Of course she never called back so I did, she said that I would have to pay the tear down.
My feeling is the following, AAMCO one or the other is making you do business with them, accept for the tear down no work was done. Also, I was told that I needed a new gear shaft, etc. I don't understand how a transmission for a 96 Hyundai could be so much when a rebuilt engine for a 90 6 cylinder Mitsubishi Montero was only $2000.
I'm 26 year old woman and feel like i'm being taken for a ride. No effort has been made by AAMCO to be honest or helpful. I don't want to be refunded, I just don't see why I have to pay for something that was broken and will stay broken unless I do business with AAMCO. Please let me know if there is anything I can do. Thank you.
