Dear Sirs:
We have a problem.
Here's the situation: Two days ago, my girlfriend and I decided to have the brakes inspected on her 2002 Jeep Liberty at Just Brakes, inc. 445 W Broadway Road
Tempe, AZ. The rear brakes were squeaking.
My girlfriend arrived to your shop about 30 minutes before I did.in that time, your technicians had completely disassembled all four brakes and your sales guy or manager was trying to convince her that she had serious issues with calipers, springs, rotors cylinders and pads. He quoted over $600.00 in necessary repairs for this nearly new vehicle. When I arrived, the shop manager attempted to convince me of the same. I happen to be more familiar with brake systems than my girlfriend is and declined to take his advice with regard to work that he was suggesting as necessary.
The manager refused to reassemble the brakes, stating that the rear brakes were a major safety issue due to a seal leak on the right rear brake assembly. The technician showed the defective part and a very small amount of fluid was evident at the seal however, we decided to have the work done elsewhere. Again the manager ignored our request to have the brakes reassembled and insisted on doing that portion of the work.
Feeling helpless since the vehicle brakes were in pieces in the garage and it was closing time. We agreed to let Just Brakes replace the part. We left the vehicle over night because the parts were not readily available. The following day, we picked up the vehicle to discover that the rear brake system was severely malfunctioning. The brake shoes were burning. The rear wheels heated up significantly.
We immediately took the jeep to a more reputable facility to have the brakes inspected. Just as we suspected, the new inspection revealed that there was not a need for any of the work that the Just Brakes manager suggested.in fact the jeep didn't even need new brake pads or shoes. According to the ASE Certified technicians at the second inspection shop, the rear brakes were heating up after we left Just Brakes because their technicians failed to properly adjust the settings or "intentionally manipulated the settings" after installing the new part.
This afternoon, I contacted the shop manager to ask for a refund and a formal apology to be addressed to me, my girlfriend and our families for his actions and for creating a very unsafe situation with regard to our vehicle. The manager expressed no interest or concern and advised me to take it up with the corporate office.
I am extremely offended that these Just Brakes employees would go to the extent of creating a safety issue by intentionally manipulating adjustments on our vehicle to secure additional work. I somewhat feel like this was an attempt on our lives for refusing to buy into this manager's scandalous sales technique. It is my intention to take what ever action necessary to report this and to continue efforts to document this incident. This sales technique or practice may lead to brake failure causing a vehicle accident or worse.
