Friday, 4/15 I took my 2000 Honda CRV into Just Brakes (#91) for the advertised 4-wheel friction realign for $99.88. I spoke with Manny, who was professional and a pleasure to deal with.
I expressed to him my concern with Just Brakes as I had heard several negative things about the company. He assured me that the advertised deal was guaranteed as long as my pads weren't completely worn out. Manny then obtained my car make, model, year and mileage. I signed a "contract" authorizing only the $99.88 fee.
After over an hour of waiting, another gentleman called me to the counter to discuss my car. He proceeded to tell me that while he carried pads for 90% of the cars on the road, he did not carry mine. He told me that my car required "special ceramic pads" that he could have delivered in 15 minutes for an additional $69.99 plus various other fees.
Needless to say, I took my business elsewhere despite this gentleman's insistence that I get my pads replaced immediately because they were so badly worn. I was there for another 30 minutes; waiting for Just Brakes to put the wheels back on my car. There was one other car on site; therefore, the establishment was far from busy.
Here are my questions:
1. When I gave my car's make, model and year, why was I not told (a.K.A. Lied to) immediately instead of over one hour later that it would need "special ceramic brake pads"?
2. Why would Just Brakes not carry brake pads for one of the most common cars on the road; a Honda?
3. Why when I took my business elsewhere, did I see that my existing pads were made of metal (not ceramic) and were far from being worn out? I am contacting the Better Business Bureau and Houston consumer advocates Marvin Zindler and Wayne Dolcefino to report these insulting and abominable business tactics.
