A telemarketer contacted me by telephone and offered me a 100% unsecured Visa credit card with a credit limit of $2500. He told me the rate would not exceed 6.9%. The card was to be issued directly from Visa, not a bank.
I told him I was not interested and he insisted that I don't pass up this offer as the interest rates are at the lowest in history. I asked how to signup and he told me it would cost $249 setup fee and that was it. The card would be delivered to my address in 2-4 weeks and I could begin using the card with no monthly or annual fees.
I told him no again, that I didn't want to pay for a credit card even though it sounded like a great offer. He then informed me that I would receive rewards that would reimburse my $249 setup fee within the first 3 months. I finally agreed to give my bank account info.
When I finally received my package from Guardian Benefits there was no Visa credit card inside. All I received was a bundle of credit card offers which required an additional fee to get a secured credit card. I immediately sent my package back with a letter demanding repayment. I never received any response or repayment and am now out the $249, and I want to spread the word so others will not fall for these unfair, deceptive scams.
