From the start, I have not had a pleasant experience with the student loan department of Citi Bank. I graduated college in spring of and therefore expected to begin repayments 6 moths after that. However, upon sending them a change of address, I never got anything from them. Visiting with my parents one day they told me they had gotten a letter from them (they are my cosigners) that stated I was 3 months behind on my student loan repayment. I called to sort the issue out and to try to work something out. They did not care that I never received notice and I had to pay the past due immediately. After telling them I could not do that, since my husband was jobless and I was only working part time, I asked why the monthly payments were so high and if they could lower them (which your site says is an option), the woman replied, "Well you do owe us $50,000". She said it so rudely and matter of factly, as if I was refusing to work with her. When in fact, she was refusing to work with me in any way. She did not want to hear anything except that I was going to pay the full amount now and continue my monthly payments. I paid what I could and finally got a short forbearance. Now that my husband and I are both employed with full time jobs, I called again to work something out. I asked if they could take my past due and tack it onto the end of the loan so I could start making my monthly payments, which I am able to do now. She said they absolutely could not do that and that I had to pay the past due immediately, which at this point is now up to probably $2500. It is impossible for me to pay that on top of my monthly payments, I sent them a couple payments when I could and then I found out they were calling my parents who are the cosigners and telling them that I am not paying my loan, I am behind and that I have no intention on doing anything about it. How dare they after I tried countless times to work something out so that they could at least be getting some money from me. You would think a loan company would do anything to get money from a customer. Not this one. So for the past 4 weeks I have been calling every other day to speak with someone one more time to try to figure something out, and every single time I call (and I try every number listed), the line is BUSY. It's unbelievable how much I have tried to work with this company to get them money and try to pay off my loan and they refuse to work with me. I will not recommend citi bank student loans to anybody. I have never been talked to so rudely by people who are supposed to be CUSTOMER REPRESENTATIVES.
