Don't Use Hunter Financial Group

I thought I would share my experience with Hunter Financial Group. HFG is located in Tempe, but everything that they do is web based. That means all communication is either by phone or email.

I filled out an online application about July 12 and spoke with a loan officer on July 14. I was told the process should take about 30 days. I was provided with electronic documents to sign on July 16 and an appraisal was scheduled. I was then asked to submit more financial documents with the loan submitted to underwriting on July 27. My loan was approved with conditions on August 2. This is where the problems start. I wasn't informed of any of the conditions until August 10, even though I had requested them on several occasions. Since I was traveling I wasn't able to provide all the documents requested until August 13. On August 16 they said that they were waiting for the payoff amount from my current mortgage holder.

I did not here anything until August 23 when I was told I needed to close out several of my credit card accounts and that my wife had a fraud alert on her credit report. I closed the accounts and began the process of removing the fraud alert. On August 29 we had a conference call scheduled to confirm the closing of one of the accounts, but not all of the ones that had been requested.

On Sept. 7 I received an email requesting that I obtain letters from the credit card companies indicating that the accounts were closed. I provided online printouts, but was told that they were unacceptable.

On Sept. 11 I was told the the fraud alert was still in place, so I went back to working on that. On Sept. 13 I asked why we couldn't use a conference call to resolve the fraud alert and the closed credit card accounts. The loan processor should have suggested this in August as she is trained in this and I am not. I also let them know that my interest guarantee expires in 11 days.

On Sept. 18 the fraud alert is finally removed, but we are not finished yet. Later in the day Hunter Financial Group wants information on a rental that I own with my brothers. The documentation they request was provided back in July. I provided documentation that I was not on the note and had no financial responsibility for the property. Hunter Financial now wants 12 months of cancelled checks, documents indicating that I 1/4 of the property in question as well as a release to talk to the mortgage company. Why didn't they ask for this in the beginning? Rather than deal with this issue I file a quit claim deed on the property (required a 200 mile round trip to Maricopa county) and faxed it to HFG. On Sept. 20 we are approved. Signed documents on Sept. 22 with funding on Sept. 27.

However, we are not finished yet. On Oct. 2 I get a notice form my homeowners insurance that it has expired. It seems that back in August Hunter Financial Group notified them that they were the new mortgage holder and my insurance would be paid out of escrow. Hunter Financial notified my insurance company of a change in mortgage companies 1 full month before the loan ever closed and then failed to pay the policy premium. I am now without homeowners insurance and am dealing with getting it reinstated. Thank you Hunter Financial for another headache.

My advice is Do Not Ever Use Hunter Financial Group for anything.
