Consumer Report

I originally bought a small item (car sideview mirror for $70) on eBay from Mr. Danny Hunter (eBay name: "screaming914"). The mirror was satisfactory, and at the conclusion of the transaction, Mr. Hunter offered to sell me a Porshe 914 2.0L engine, in working order, for $1500 (shipping costs included). Although Mr. Hunter requested that I NOT use PayPal, I insisted and purchased the engine on May 18, after reviewing the specifications and photographs that Mr. Hunter emailed to me. For the next 42 days, Mr. Hunter appeared to have trouble delivering the engine to me (he is in Pennsylvania; I am in California), citing one mishap after another. Mr. Hunter kept guaranteeing me that the engine I purchased would be delivered — begging for patience and for me not to alert PayPal. Finally, on day 42 (note that PayPal's warranty is 45 days), after discovering that Mr. Hunter still failed to ship the engine to me, I filed a dispute/claim with PayPal. I also called Mr. Hunter to let him know that I had no choice but to file that day. This action prompted Mr. Hunter to start shipment on the engine. When I received the engine on July 6, I discovered that Mr. Hunter had shipped me a nonfunctional engine that also was NOT the engine that he described in the email and looked nothing like the photos he'd emailed me: I was expecting and had paid for a 2.0L engine; he delivered a 1.7L engine that was rusted and cracked — basically, the equivalent of a bucket of damaged metal parts. I am currently trying to work with PayPal to settle the dispute. I have kept detailed documentation throughout, including photos, and have contacted a certified Porshe mechanic to examine the engine, alongside Mr. Hunter's emailed specs and photos, in order to verify the validity of my claim to PayPal.

I believe that Mr. Hunter committed fraud in selling me an item that falls far short of the item he advertised. I believe that he lured me into this scam by selling me a small item via eBay before "baiting" me with a much larger purchase.
