I received a call from "Bella" with CENTURION FINANCIAL BENEFITS informing me of a "special offer" for a unsecured MasterCard with an initial $2000.00 limit. I just needed to pay a ONE time ONLY fee of $249.00. This would be drafted from my checking account on 10/8/04 so I could have enough time to "get the money in there"."Bella" stated that they would be calling the bank a few days before the draft to make sure the money was there.
She became pushy when I was questioning her on the ethics and legalities of the offer. She kept stating that they would be recording the call "for my own protection". Being caught up in a weak financial moment I reluctantly gave her my DL# ; account# but "forgot" my routing #, which wasn't a problem for her. I again asked if this was a guareented credit limit and a REAL credit card. "Bella" stated that it is a REAL offer and a REAL credit for which I could take out $500 in cash advance fees once I got the card (14 days after EFT) in order to cover my mortgage payment for which I was using to cover my "one time payment" But, I could cancel by Monday if I didn't want the card.
I was then transferred to "Peter" a Authorization Specialist who made me repeat everything after prompts. Then I was offered some Sprint Long Distance free offer for 15 days with cxl#'s as well.
Of course after I got my head out of the clouds and realized I was duped. I saw them listed here and IMMEDIATLEY placed a stop payment.
These people really suck!
I am so glad you guys are around!!! This will from now on be the first place I go to when needing to test a offers validity.
