I hired a van from this company (www.a1nationalvanhire.co.uk) at the end of May for a weekend 9/10 June. It looked legitimate for an on-line site and the account references and cordial communication put me at ease. Although they changed the actual van I ordered several times I was happy that what I got was delivered on time and collected after the end of hire time. It was 2 weeks before I first approached the firm to obtain my £500 deposit and I guess everyone knows the rest. Phone calls were put off with "I shall speak to the accounts", followed by "the money has been sent", "the money will be transferred today" and "it should be in your account within 3 days." Fortunately I kept records of every conversation and still have all the correspondence from them - but what good is that? 7 weeks have passed and still no sign. On the recommendations of others I have: a. Cancelled my credit card, b. Notified the on-line fraud office, c. Notified BBC Watchdog, d. Published details on twitter, facebook, linked-in & every blog site known to man. My concern is this, there are a string of complaints about this organisation on this site alone, running back over 12 months. The action I have taken has been taken previously on more than one occasion and yet what has happened to A1 National Van Hire? Diddly squat, that's what. They are still free to operate and probably today will take a few other mugs hard earned cash for this scam. Eventually of course they will go into liquidation, the money spent or squirreled away and then reform under another name to play the whole thing out again.
To be honest I'm all for spending another £100 in petrol money, driving down to Leicester and redecorating their office, but I would rather hope that the police and others would do their jobs and STOP THIS THEFT NOW. I don't need to know that the Met or others are compiling complaints in order to press charges etc, there is sufficient anecdotal evidence already here for them to immediately close down that organisation and press charges against those involved.
I am so angry at being ripped off that I am not going to rest until this organisation are shut down and I am recompensed.
Anyone need support in a visit to their offices let me know - I'd gladly make the trip.
