I check my account often and noticed that an unauthorized charge of $87.00 paid to the order of Prime Benefits was the payee of this check, when I printed a copy of the check.
I first noticed that it wasn't a check that I had written. I then noticed that it was a not one of my personal checks, it was made by Prime Benefits. I first called my Credit Union and advised them of the situation. I asked them how they were able to gain access to my account, and soon learned that it was authorized by my husband or I over a phone call.
I never held a conversation with any such company and my husband said that he hadn't either. We were able to have our Credit Union reverse the charge and request it back. I haven't yet received the refund, although my Credit Union has assured me that it will be in there the next business day.
This is a scam that would have gone on without my knowledge, had I not been aware of my financial circumstances. I don't know how they got to my personal info. And Bank info. The way that they did, but it makes me nervous, to know that others could do the same thing. I put my Credit Union on notice and they will be searching for other similar instances in the future.
