This was actually a few years ago now. I had a checking account with US bank since I was 18. I had closed and started new ones a couple of times.in 2008 I stopped using it because of the outrageous way they ran their checking accounts. I was however reffered to by their Banker to keep my account there with it's small balance of $3.00 and some odd cents because it looked good from a credit stand point. So I used my other account. Life was good. I wasn't getting all these outrageous fee's and somehow my new bank never charged me overdraft fee's for banking the same way I was at US Bank.
Then 2 years later my mother who was listed on my US Bank account told me I was overdrawn by $400.00 in that account. I laughed and said that it was impossible. I never use that account, I cut up my card and shredded my checks. No way. But I went in to talk with my usual banker at their White Bear Lake location; she is always kind and does her best to help me. Anyway she pulled up an account record. It seems, 6 months after I stopped using my account they sent me a statement to my old address. Which I didn't call them to change it because I was not using that account. Anyway the statement was sent back and they charged my account $5.00. Yes, $5.00. Now my account only had $3.00 and some odd cents in it. So it was over charged by US Bank $1.00 and some odd cents. Then they charged my account the 35$ overdraft fee. Then they continued to change my account an negative balance fee of $8.00 a day. ($24.00 for weekends and holidays) For a year and a half. Now How silly is that?! Then when I laughed and said there is no way that the bank deserves this money. (which they already took out of my mothers checking account because they can do that if she was listed on my account. Not to mention that they waited until the amount got good and high.)
My banker, tried to reason with the branch manager, but to no avail. They stated that it is in the contract that if a statement gets returned there is a charge to dispose of that statement. But to charge an account, which they knew was not in use and urged me to keep open, over $300.00 in negative balance and overdraft fees that THEY overdrew, is justifiable. She did get me back $199.00 So about half. I urge everyone, who is using US bank to take a close look at how they treat you. Think twice about using them.
