I applied for a BEST BUY credit card and elected to have Best Buy let Household Bank have my information. I received a Gold mastercard in the mail from Household Bank about 1 week later.
I read the disclosure statement that arrived with the card and was not happy with the terms so I shredded the card and thought nothing of it.
I just received a bill from Household bank for a $69.00 annual fee for an account that I never had oppened. I called Household Bank and spoke to customer service in India. He told me that I accepted their terms when I elected to have Best Buy provide Household bank with my credit application that I filled out for Best Buy.
He also stated that Household Bank considers an "Open account" grounds enough to start charging an annual fee on a credit card that has not been activated. After some arguing he closed my account that I never opened and said that the charge will be reversed. Verdict is still out on if I really get this resolved on my first attempt.
If this isn't a case of desceptive practices I don't know what is. Best Buy pretty much turned me off from ever buying anything from them ever again.
