I tried to close my account at Capital One at the Bradlee Center branch in Alexandria, VA last Thursday (2/17). The teller gave me the remainder of the funds in my checking account, which was about $20 dollars. Since it wasn't enough to pay off the overdraft protection of $25.16, I had to take money out of an external account and then pay it off in cash. I had originally transferred the entire amount of a payment to close the overdraft protection, but by the time my credit union transferred the funds into Capital One, the payoff amount had gone up about 25 dollars!
This was in a matter of days! Anyway, I thought my account was closed. But when I checked over the weekend, they had not credited any amount to payoff the Capital One Overdraft account. I tried calling but the weekend representative was less than helpful, even though I had the receipt right in front of me.
