A friend of mine and new Primerica recruit invited me to meet with his rep. Because the “rep. Claimed said she wanted to know more about my business.” So, I agreed to meet with this Primerica Rep., because at least this way I’d be doing a little business of my own and could help out my friend. He asked if I would go to the meeting too, but I declined. I had a 1099 business, and wasn’t looking for more. I’m doing awesome. After meeting the Rep. I was shuffled into a room full of others to watch the presentation I declined from the start, after the woman said she didn’t know anything about my company and wasn’t interested to learn more, which was the first red flag. I stayed for the presentation anyway, because at least doing so would help my buddy out. The entire presentation focused more on the ‘what you can do with your money’ rather than on how you made money with Primerica. It was a horse and pony show…another red flag. After it ended, I was ushered back into the Rep.’s office. She wanted to know what I thought. I politely declined recruitment straight away, making sure to praise her company since my buddy is involved with them, hoping to leave. Been there for over an hour now, and felt a touch hoodwinked. I wish I could say that’s where it ended. But unfortunately, the Rep. Didn’t understand the meaning of the word ‘no.’ She obviously looked up my company online during the hour presentation and tried to wow me with knowledge she didn’t have some sixty minutes ago. Then she proceeded to insult my business and assume I’d fail with it, without even knowing how much success I’ve already had—another rooky mistake from someone claiming to be an executive. She basically told me I’m nothing without her insurance company. You might say that’s when I realized this woman thought I'm stupid enough not to catch a blatant lie and accept I’m a loser because she said so. So I called her out on her lie, explained my success in as few words as possible, effectively embarrassing her in front of my friend—who was her “trainee.” She was stammering as I grabbed my briefcase to walk out. What this woman had effectively done in less than five minutes was insult my business choices, insult my intelligence, and insure that they would never recruit me or even sell me insurance ever in the future. I wished my friend luck as I left, and hoped he learned what the WRONG way to do business was from that stupid excuse for a meeting. Some advice to other’s considering Primerica: Don’t let them convince you your worth is nothing without them…and they will try to do convince you of this, because that’s how they do business. Primerica has a lot of lousy business tactics that most people learn in primary school when handling lunch money. Just remember you're your success should be celebrated, not degraded. If you want to join, do so with class, but know that better business will respect a “no” and move on successfully. Anyone who tells you not to take no for an answer, is really selling dog shit.
