I applied for a secured Mastercard from Orchard Bank, a subsidiary of HSBC. On December 30 they wrote me thanking me for opening my card, on January 4 my deposit check cleared my bank, and on January 6 they generated a computer notice that I was being denied due to "a serious delinquency on at least one other account".
I followed up with their automated line and learned the credit report they based the denial on was Equifax. I pulled my free annual report from Equifax, and there is no delinquency, just as I knew to be the case.
They have not returned my deposit and refuse to tell me which agency issued their bank charter so I can file a complaint there.
