NFCU THUGS forcing me to pay someone else's debt

Navy Federal Credit Union could care less about its members. Therefore, I will absolutely be contacting my local news stations, state and county reps, and congressman about the MANY unethical, and disgusting business practices of Navy Federal Credit Union. I encourage others who have filed complaints here, to do so.

Allow me note just a couple - off of a LONG list - of offenses:

#1 - A family member of mine had an NFCU account. Said family member was laid off from their job, as many Americans were as of late, and as a result, fell (not far) behind in payments on a mortgage loan. I have never, ever been connected to this account, and in turn family member was neither connected to any of MY accounts. This didn't matter because as long as we once shared an address in the past, NFCU felt they had the right to call and harrass me at all hours of the day to insist that I give my family member a message to call NFCU. Last time I checked, I was a human being, not an answering machine. And, how many employees from the NFCU collections dept., want to be called and interrupted at work numerous times a day, to take harrassing calls from collection reps? I'm betting none? My accounts AND credit are perfect, yet I'm harrassed on a daily basis, by my own credit union, because of another member's account? Nice.

On several occassions I requested they not call me, but they continued and I was once even told by a rep "I can call you anytime I want to because you are related to the member with the debt..." Oh, really? Not only did they continue to call me, but non-blood related ex-spouse's ex-spous. Doesn't make sense at all. Call the ex-spouse, of an ex-spouse to tell them to deliver a message. Awesome. An organization that brings in BILLIONS a year, harrassing people who gross less than $40k a year. How awesome is that for a non-profit?

#2 - If you ever decide to (and God I pray you don't try it) apply for a car loan through NFCU - if possible, go into a branch and do this in person. Don't sign anything and mail it in, because they will misplace your paperwork, then call you daily to tell your loan is going to be canceled because they haven't received your documentation. They will then proceed to send you new promissory notes to sign, on a weekly basis, and each week you call to tell them you've already signed and mailed THREE - FOUR copies of this document, they will tell you that you didn't (yes they often accuse their members of lying - don't believe, search the many complaints out there on the net)!

#3 - If ever you choose to transfer money into a family member's account, please don't try to surprise them. Just call them ahead of time to make sure their account is still open and active. NFCU is in the business of accepting money into CLOSED accounts. And, of course they won't disclose this info to you (which they legally cannot do of course - understandable). They WILL however, just simply accept your money and put it into the closed account. Once you find out the money you intended to give your family member, never reached their hands, you might as well count it a loss. Even if the family member calls and authorizes them to reverse the transaction because the account is no longer active, NFCU will NOT do so. If doesn't matter if you call them to explain the issue, in good faith, as a long time member with perfect credit, and absolutely NO past issues or late payments, they WILL NOT CARE! They are unwilling to work with upstanding members/consumers despite being a "non-profit." Last time I checked, non-profits are formed to aid their communities. I guess the definitions have changed?

#4 - If you own a Visa Check credit/debit card - please understand that NFCU puts the word "debit" on their cards, but they don't actually allow you to use the card as a debit card. If ever in an emergency situation, stranded and needing to use the debit feature, pray an armored truck passes by because you will be S.O.L.

God bless the day the U.S. Government truly begins to crack down on institutions who claim not-for-profit status but who rob American citizens and military personnel BLIND and treat them like crap.

From all of the other horrible situations documented on this site, it's no wonder NFCU hasn't been more widely exposed. Perhaps people aren't angry enough yet? Until we as consumers start lighting fires under their backsides, NOTHING is going to be done about this organization. People had better start banding together if they want to see change happen.

I have since closed my accounts with NFCU and I suggest anyone who is considering doing business with them, consider another institution becuase you'll be in for a VERY bumpy ride. Again, Navy Federal Credit Union could care less about it's members. This credit union's members aren't allowed to make mistakes, but the credit union is allowed, and yet are not held accountable.

Way to do business.
