I'm not sure if this will help anybody but I'm going to give it a try.
This posting is in relation to the CalCars/CarBiz office that was previously operating in Pekin, Illinois. A company by the name of SAFCO obtained numerous titles from CarBiz upon it's closing. They have a bunch of titles for accounts that were paid off when CarBiz was still operating.
After 5 hours on the phone calling everywhere from FDIC, to the IL Atty General, to the Sec of State, and even the IL State Police, we went simple and did a search for the name of the individual who was running the shady business. We did a search for Dan Tyler and came up with the number 309-353-3390 which was CarBiz's original number. Who would've thunk it:). After calling this, we were led to SAFCO. The first time we called, the gentleman was very rude and obnoxious and said of course they only have the titles for the vehicles that were NOT paid off upon the business' closing so anything paid before 2010 they wouldn't have. Not satisfied with that answer, I called back and got a very soft spoken, nice girl who was willing to answer alllllll kinds of questions for me. I gave it a shot and it worked. She told me they obtained over 200 titles from CarBiz for cars that WERE paid off prior to their closing. She searched and was able to confirm that they did have the two titles in question. One having been paid off in late 2008 and the other in 2009. She gave me the number for the corporate office where the titles are being held. She also gave me a few extension numbers of people she knew that would help us.
We called corporate at 1-800-836-0226. I called ext #12594 (try also # 12518) and got another very helpful lady by the name of Chartel (sorry if I spelled that wrong). It took a little while and I later thanked her for staying after quitting time to help me but she was able to locate the titles in their system. The most helpful information you can give them to assist them in their search are the last six digits of the vehicle VIN#, year/make of vehicle, and your name. Once they are pulled up in the system, they will need to be pulled physically and they are willing to mail them to you. I would suggest using a PO Box if possible just to be safe. Can't trust anybody anymore.
I was told the titles would be mailed on Tuesday when she was back in the office. I'll post an update once the titles are received. Let's all cross our fingers.
