I got a captiol one card, actually three of them. One i have paid off and closed. One I charged up to 670$ on and during a lay off was unable to find work however I was still making the payments until they said my payment was late, hit me with a 25$ late fee which pushed my balance over my credit limit and then assesed an over limit fee and have been doing so ever since. My debtis now at a wonderful 2100.00 of which 1430 of it are all fees capitol one has added.
I had called them and asked the account be closed, they said no we are sorry it is over limit and until you get it below limit you cant close the account. I called them some months later and asked to work out a plan to get it paid before it got out of hand, the only deal they would work was give us your bank account number and commit to 3 payments to pay it off. Of course being out of work you cannot make those kinds of deals because you have no idea if when the check clears you will have money in there to cover it or set yourself up for a stay in federal prison for writing a bad check and making things worse!
As time went on I paid them every month like clockwork to the best of my ability, they continued to be unwavering in thier demand for payment and offered no help to resolve the situation in a win win manner. To date the balance is at 2100.00 and it is now headed for collections, course I have a whole 4 days to send them 1300$ to resolve the matter. I cannot get the financing cause my credit report is now damaged beyond even though I could technically deal with them but because of repeated inflexibility and regular reporting to a credit agency I am unable to deal with them and get it resolved cause i cant get financing.
This just seems like such a rediculous process and one that leads to nothing but bad for everyone. I suppose they are making a killing at it other wise why do it? I love this site because I dont feel Im the only one out there they are doing this to. I hate that it is happening to others and wish you all well. I like not feeling alone on this issue! I also want to thank you for having this site, I found it this morning while researching a mortgage company I was going to refi through to get this under control and found them ALSO on your site and have written them a note and said thanks but no thanks to their offer.
Because of this site I was saved my home and Im eternally greatful! PS to the person who was callin people who couldnt pay a loser, the universe has a funny way of making us "feel" for others when we so smugly state such things:) I wish you well in your future.
