Chase deducted $40 from my checking account on 12/28 with the cryptic description dr due to ATM/WTD error.
When I challenged the transaction their response was that $40 was withdrawn from a 7-Eleven ATM at 2:30 am 12/23. I disputed the transaction and after having the card in question cancelled and replaced, Chase reversed the credit and debited my account again for the $40 claiming [in a written letter] that I was welcome to view the research documents used in resolving my claim.
To date, Chase has refused to supply the documents and has given me different versions and dates of the original transaction with each phone call to customer service and visit to the Ocoee branch. Further, Chase can not verify the actual date or location of the transaction. Their position is that since I have processed transactions with 7-Elevens in the past this transaction is valid and authorized.
The Ocoee branch manager had the absolute temerity to suggest that I contact 7-Eleven for verification although she could neither provide the 7-Eleven location nor date of the original transaction. She also told me that as far as she was concerned I did the transaction and did not deserve a credit.
When I asked the branch manager for the agency that would handle my complaint about the bank she referred me to their same customer service department. She said the only other entity would be FDIC.
In essence, Chase pilfered money from my account and refuses to document the legitimacy of the deduction. This has set an unacceptable precedent. This time it was $40 from me and who knows many other account holders. How much money and from how many people will it be next time?
