Bank of America
Over Draft Fees

On March 4, I signed on to my online banking for my Bank of America checking account. I had three charges that resulted in a $35 dollar over draft charge for each one. All three charges were cleared on March 1. The firsts charge that cleared was for $56.79, the purchase was made on Feb 27th, the second charge was for $4.57, that purchase was made on Feb 25th, and the last charge was for $4.36, that purchase was made on Feb 26th. I had a balace in my checking account that would have covered the charges on Feb 25th and Feb 26th. I understand that my account balance would not have covered the charge on Feb 27th. I was prepared to pay the $35 overdraft fee for that charge. However, Bank of America cleared all three charges on March 1 in the order of largest to smallest. And their action caused three $35 overdraft fees. On March 4th, I called the customer service line to find out why the charges cleared in that order. A representative told me that it was not the bank that processed them that way that if I had a problem that I needed to speak to the company where the charges were made and ask them why they waited to put all three charges in on the same day. I then called back and spoke to another representative who told me the same thing, so I asked to speak to a supervisor. He connected to his supervisor name Steve. Steve told me that if the charges are all submitted at the same time that they are posted from largest to smallest. I told Steve that when I have enough money in my account that the bank has never posted them in order of largest to smallest. Steve made me feel like an idiot, he offered to send me a new check register and if I wanted to sign up for text alerts for low balances or possible overdraft fees. I explained to him that I was prepared to pay the one overdraft fee on the $56 charge and that there was money in the account to cover the other two charges when they were made. I also explained to him that the amount of money ($147) was half of my paycheck and that was no way I could afford to pay it all now. He said he could only imagin what it was like to be in my position, but that was nothing he could do, and he said that if my account was in negatie balance for five consecutive days that I would accrue another $35 overdraft charge, and that every five days that would continue until I came into a positive balance. Once again I am willing to pay the one overdraft fee whick was actually my fault, but I am not willing to pay the other two that occured due to the order that the bank processed the charges on my account.
