Fifth Third Bank Western Ohio
Knocked Down AGAIN by the "Big Dogs" How many fees are there?

I have banked with Fifth Third since 2004. Shortly after opening my account a new teller made a cash deposit for me. I deposited over $700 in cash and went on my way paying bills. I checked my account a few days later to find my cash deposit was not posted. I called the bank and they informed me that I have no record of the $700 being deposited. All the while my funds were completely tied up in overdraft charges. I scrambled to find the deposit reciept, which took me a little to find. I took the slip to the bank and they credited my account and reversed the fees. Scary to think what would have happened if I were unable to prove I gave them my cash. I did bounce my account later by. 01, yes 1 cent. And was charged $37 for it. I called the bank and was wondering why. 01 would result in $37 in charges. I thought one that the penny was rediculous, even the gas station will give you a penny, but that I was charged $37 instead of $33. It was explained that I had bounced too many checks and the rate was higher. I explained these charges should not have been charged, that I hadn't bounced my account, but a deposit was not posted, but it did not matter, my rate was now at $37. I later had a bounced check and little debt card purchases. I was unaware of the take the biggest first, so that we can collect as many fees as possible. I was charged severely. My debits were less than $10 each, but I had 5, so I was charged $185 for being $24 short. I argued it was unfair, but since my fees were reversed for the botched deposit when first opening the account, I was at my "Reversal Limit". This has been my banking experience with Fifth Third Bank. They constantly change rules and let you know after you pay the fees, that you now have learned you lesson. I have been charged several times on account of "new rules". My last new rule lesson was this past Wednesday. I had made a deposit on Saturday, but it didn't count until Tuesday. I was unaware of the rule and was charge another $74. My luck that I had $70 to get gas, diapers, and maybe some laundry for me and my 4 kids for the week. After the new rule I found myself owing the bank again and not having my few dollars to get me to work for the week. I spoke with the Female at the Springfield Tuttle Rd. Bank about this. Even with a couple weeks to Christmas, she didn't feel that I deserved to be refunded, after all I have had fees reversed in the past, so I should know better. She phoned the Fairborn bank and spoke with Connie, she was sure to say how I was crying in her office and how fees have already been reversed for me before. My account was negative $2.80 and my next Child Support would not be for another week. I felt defeated, frustrated, pannicked, how am I going to get to work? Diapers? How much of my next Child Support payment are they going to take? I started crying and she let me know it was time for me to leave the bank. I wanted to close my account right there, but I know it would cost my children their Christmas if I was delayed access to my next child support payment. After raising my voice, the Customer service rep decided to credit my account $25 to bring it possitive and give me $20 for gas and diapers. Wow, not even one whole fee reversed, but a portion of one of the $37 fees. As I washed my laundry in the bathtub last night, I thought back on all the times Fifth Third has made my life difficult and I feel that I can get no justice, but I can let any other Mom's out there know this is not the bank to bank with. I opened an account Yesterday with money from recycling cans. I will close the Fifth Third account as soon as my next child support payment is deposited. Please all people out there who live paycheck to paycheck DO NOT BANK with Fifth Third, they will start taking your money, then come up with some reason why they were intitled to it. They have no heart, so you will waste your time trying to get fees reversed. They are a Preditor Bank!!
