I have been a customer of Providian for years with my credit in good standing. I have been trying to get my credit cards paid off so I put up my cards and hadn't used them for a long time. I received a notice in the mail that my credit limit was going to be reduced by $600.00 (coincidentally, the amount of credit I had available).
I called repeatedly to find out why this was happening, they said it was because of late payments, which I didn't have. I tried to argue the point but it was no use, I figured, oh well! I wasn't going to use the card anyway.
I rec'd another letter after that telling me that my account was being switched to EMERGE MASTERCARD. The day after that I rec'd a letter from Emerge increasing my interest rate from 10% or so to 22.9 %. Well with me at my limit, guess what happened next? The increased interest rate out me over my limit. Now I am trying to get above water with this company. They don't have a web site, I can't get a person on the phone. It has been almost a year or so now. This has got to be the worst ripoff around.
Don't use providian, emerge, or any of providian's other companies. They go by many names
