I had a Visa & a Mastercard account with Providian for several years. I was never happy with thier customer service... But oh well. This year I all of a sudden I find out without prior notice that my Visa account has been sold to Emerge Mastercard. I had used Providian's web site to make payments and check my account every month and it was a free payment service.
I went into the site to discover that my Visa account is no longer valid. I call and find out that Emerge now has the account and that my payment is passed due and has a number of penalty charges had been added, yet no paper statement was ever mailed to me. Round and round I went with both Providian and emerge.
Well, Emerge takes phone payments but they charge $20 additional fees for it, and to this day many months later Emerge still has no web site to take payments, yet Emerge is owned by Providian who still has a web server. Emerge charges a much higher interest rate than Providian was charging too. My goal now is to fully pay off both accounts and never deal with either company. Both companies should be shut down for Anti-trust violations... Where the heck is the Banking Commissions and other Gov agerncies that are suppose to protect use... Let me guess... Providian bought them too!
