Wow! I entered the name Merrick Bank to research and see if anybody else was suffering from the same dishonest practices that we are. Imagine my surprise when I saw that MANY are.
We like many others held a Nextcard, the first notice we received about an account changeover was a late notice complete with late fees and overage charges. You see we had worked very hard to get our account down to our limit (700.00) and the annual fees that Merrick charged pushed us back over our limit.
I immediately called and was told my ONLY option was to pay the card in full immediately. I lodged a protest via the phone thinking that this would at least stop the continuing late fees but it didn't. When I called back I was told they would look into it. Assuming again that my contact and search to resolve this matter would keep things stationary and I would not incure MORE debt. WRONG.
The fee's added up, bills did not come in and finally I discovered that our new balance was almost DOUBLE our limit. There was no use of the card, no purchases at all. The ONLY activity on the card was Merricks fees. To salvadge credit we will be forced to pay the amount they say we owe. They will NOT remove the late fees, or the overage fees. I can only hope that anyone searching for a card will see this and will NOT apply to Merrick. Go somewhere else, ANYWHERE else for your Credit needs. The local loanshark is a better option than Merrick... At least with them you KNOW what you are getting into BEFORE you get ripped off.
