I filed bankruptcy in August. At that time, BECU immediately closed my accounts, even thought my bankruptcy would not have affected BECU in any way. They also informed me that if I didn't pay off my Visa card (which was a violation of the automatic stay), they would "challenge the bankruptcy and force me to pay thousands of dollars more in attorney fee's due to their bankruptcy challenge". So, I paid the visa off (had a balance of $500). Well, they then reported the account as "not paid as agreed" and reported it as part of the bankruptcy, even though it wasn't. I was never late on any payments, and even paid early in most cases.
Two points of contact at BECU are Juanita Olsen (206-812-5391) and Melinda (206-812-5250). These two characters are both liars and should lose their jobs. I tried to work with them in good faith, but they took advantage of a single father who only filed bankruptcy because of staggering medical bills from his three year old son who has cancer.
Way to go BECU. Kick a man when he's down.
Stay far away from this bank. When times are good, they'll act like they're your friend. But when times are bad (even if they aren't at risk of losing money), they'll lie to you take advantage of you.
Please call these two characters and let them know that you saw this post on complaints and let them know that their conduct is inexcusable.
