Debtor is in bankruptcy. Received call claiming that there was a "payday loan" outstanding, demanded payment. Told debtor that payday loans could not be discharged in bankruptcy. Threatened to file suit in California on Monday morning if not paid Heavy foreign accent. Evasive about physical address and names. Claims to be a law firm.
The debtor does not know about this loan. A thorough credit search was done a few weeks ago and did not disclose anything about this.
It is a violation of bankruptcy law to pursue claims even if they are legit. It is also a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection practices act to bring suit against somebody somewhere other than where they live.
I think this is strictly a rip off: they are calling people demanding payment of non-existent loans.
