Let me start by saying that I am a responsible person who has worked at the same company for almost 20 years. I pay my bills.
After B of A screwed up the processing of a close out payment for a car loan I had with them in I vowed NEVER to use them again. (My final payment check sat on some branch manager's desk for a few months, while they put a black mark on my credit.) Much to my dismay, B of A took over MBNA, where I had my credit card issued. Suddenly I was back with them again.
Anyhow, Bank of America ratcheted my APR to 20.5% on my credit card balance in the beginning of 2009. Why? I had one late payment in 2006.
So I called them to ask them to lower it. I pay on time via on-line payments each month.
They said "We can't do that, and we are going to have to remove your remaining credit limit, as well. Thank you for calling".
This was HUMILIATING. This is NOT how you treat responsible long term customers who pay their bills.
Since then, I have secured a loan, and am paying of my entire balance with B of A.
There isn't a DAMN thing I want B of A to do for me EVER. Except maybe stop buying out other institutions I am doing business with. There is ONE thing I will do for B of A, however. I have been telling anyone who will listen about my experience with them. Funny thing is, I have already heard many similar tales from friends and family. B of A is infamous for their ticky-tack charges and service fees and stone-wall customer service. Is this what you want from your bank?
