I have been trying for the last 2 months to get a credit card of a dieing relative cancelled as well as some service called CREDITNOTIFY that she wasn't aware she was paying. She was hospitalized a couple of months ago and I was given a Power of Attorney to handle her affairs.
There have been multiple calls including 2 where she advised both companies from her sickbed that I could speak on her behalf. I was told to send a fax with the power of attorney, customer number and her name and they would take care of the cancellation which I did June 4.
Yesterday, June 16, I received a letter from Citibank that the power of attorney required a notary seal which I was told by an attorney is not necessary. Hospice has advised us that her death is imminent so I will just wait for the death certificate as Citibank/CREDITNOTIFY advised me originally. It is unfortunate these companies have decided to be so difficult during what is already an extremely difficult experience. I will do my best to advise anyone I know not to deal with these companies.
