I live in Mannheim, Germany. I was out on a shopping trip to Berlin when a $100 charge was disputed. Forget about calling American Express collect using the number imprinted on the back of the card - it doesn't work. I was forced to call American Express on my German mobilephone. I called and spoke to a lovely Sue Ellen @ 2151 on 12 November and was told the system is down. The Website was down, my card was not operable, system was going to be down for 30 minutes. After telling her that this was an unacceptable answer the system came up @ 2154. Kym Barnes a troubleshooter of sorts was given the telephone and she gave me the correct international collect number but was no help. I went thru all this in the name of fraud, for $100 bucks I could handle that. American Express performed in an absolutely unacceptable manner on this issue. I have been a member since 1994.
